For over 50 years, BMR has been building communities by helping contractors and homeowners renovate, upgrade and even build their own homes, decks and fences.
BMR was created when six friends (Marc Rousseau, Bona Major, Georges Bertrand, François L’Espérance, René Lortie and Clément Létourneau) gathered in Marc Rousseau’s Hardware store in Chomedey, Quebec and each contributed a cheque for $2500 to start what was originally called Union Six and later became BMR.
During the 70’s, when new home construction was in decline, BMR shifted their focus from purchasing to retail, selling renovation materials to professionals as well as individuals. By 1997, BMR analyzed its sales strategy and reoriented its marketing design to become a full renovation centre where Customers could do one-stop shopping for all their building needs. They also added hardware to their shelves and more than 16,000 new products were made available to their dealers.
In 2005, BMR faced its toughest challenge yet when the BMR head office in Longueuil burned to the ground. Team members quickly acted and together, the new BMR office was up and running within one week—proof of this company’s strength, resilience and dedication to their dealers. By 2010, BMR launched its new agriculture department, Agrizone, and in 2015, La Coop Federee, Quebec’s largest agri-food organization, acquired the BMR Group.
Today, there are close to 300 BMR home renovation centers and hardware stores in Quebec, Ontario and the Maritime Provinces in cities such as Montreal, Richmond, Blainville, Windsor, Rivière-du-Loup and Victoriaville. Groupe BMR dealers share an expertise in hardware and building materials and an in-depth knowledge of their respective markets. This allows them to provide personalized service to the Customers and contractors who rely on them.
